The relief effort from MTW has been underway for over a year as donations have purchased critical medical equipment and relief products for the military and citizens of Ukraine. “We are so blessed to be in a position to help those in need during the conflict and very grateful to those who have donated their time, money and resources to help us deliver critical supplies to the front lines,” said U.S. Citizen, missionary and organizer Doug Shepherd who has lived in Lviv, Ukraine since 1996.
“We were introduced to Compression Works and Dr. John Croushorn, co-founder and the inventor of the AAJT-S junctional tourniquet,” said Doug Shepherd. “Compression Works responded immediately and even had their instructions and application videos translated into Ukrainian so that those using the device could receive training on the use of their life-saving technology,” said Shepherd.
“The Compression Works Abdominal Aortic & Junctional Tourniquet-Stabilized (AAJT-S) device was originally designed to stop severe bleeding on the battlefields of Iraq and Afghanistan and is now in use with every branch of the U.S. military, Special Operations, NATO allies and first responder groups around the world,” said Chief Medical Officer for Compression Works John Croushorn, MD.
“When we delivered supplies recently, we had a Ukrainian soldier approach us who said that he was alive today because of one of the tourniquets that we donated during our last visit,” stated Shepherd. “It is the real-life impact of giving that makes you want to continue to do everything you can to help people and save lives,” said Shepherd.
Crates for Ukraine will receive the AAJT-S devices and get them into the hands of those most in need. The aid from North American donors is shipped to Lviv, Ukraine via Flexport, who partners with Crates for Ukraine. The aid takes 10 days to get to Lviv, a few days for processing in Lviv, then the aid is delivered to the hardest hit areas near the front lines.
